4. Miles has Big Ten roots

What makes Miles such an intriguing head coaching candidate, besides his success at LSU, is that he has ties to three Power 5 conferences. Miles has experience coaching in the Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC, which is pretty invaluable experience at this point in his career.

While Miles was the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys and at LSU, he played his college ball at the University of Michigan for legendary head coach Bo Schembechler in the mid-1970s. Many thought that Miles was going to leave LSU for Michigan when Rich Rodriguez was fired. That job went to the overwhelmed Brady Hoke and Miles stayed in Baton Rouge.

Now that he is out of a job, could he go back to the conference he got his start in as a player? Like with Bobinski, Purdue seems like a pretty favorable entry point for a head coach looking for his third and final opportunity to lead a team.

From his days as a player, Miles knows exactly what it takes to win in the Big Ten. The conference has been making nothing but outstanding head coaching hires of late. It’s time for Purdue to get themselves into the mix. Maybe Miles is their guy?
