The Arizona Cardinals defeated the New York Jets on Monday Night Football, 28-3. Here are all the highlights, a game recap, and the final score.

30. Final. 28. 32. 3

The Arizona Cardinals had themselves another primetime statement game on Monday Night Football, clobbering the New York Jets, 28-3. Arizona moves to 3-3 on the season, while the Jets nosedive to 1-5.

Arizona dominated the Jets on the ground with a career day from second-year running back David Johnson. His three rushing touchdowns proved to America that the Cardinals have what it takes to be an elite team offensively. In short, they don’t have to rely on the Carson Palmer deep ball to move the chains.

New York is a mess. The Jets could not run the football at all. Starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was benched in the fourth quarter in favor of backup signal caller Geno Smith. They ended up throwing awful interceptions on back-to-back plays. It is a lost season in New York and it’s only Week 6.

The Cardinals haven’t beaten anybody great yet (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, Jets), but are starting to look like a team that can get back to the NFC Playoffs. Arizona isn’t on the level of the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks. However, those NFC West rivals will square off on Sunday Night Football in Glendale in Week 7.

More on FanSided:

New York needs to find continuity at the quarterback position for offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. If it isn’t Fitzpatrick or Smith, maybe it’s time to play either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg. It’s a lost season after all for the Jets. Just end the season…

Three Stars

  1. David Johnson: Johnson ran all over the Jets defense on Monday Night Football. He had 22 carries for 111 rushing yards and three paydirts. Johnson would also have three catches for 27 yards.
  2. Carson Palmer: Before exiting with a slight hamstring injury, Palmer played well against a decent Jets secondary. Palmer completed 23 of 34 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. His yards per attempt of 6.3 wasn’t great, but his quarterback rating of 94.4 was certainly solid.
  3. Tyrann Mathieu: Mathieu continues to be one of the best dynamic playmakers in the secondary in football. He had six tackles (all solo), two pass deflections and a four-yard interception to seal the Jets’ fate.
