Borussia Dortmund travel to Lisbon to face Sporting at the Jose Alvalade Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Borussia return to Champions League duty, sitting in first place in their group ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference. Their next two games are against Sporting Lisbon, Borussia’s main adversary for the second qualifying spot in the group.
After a scorching-hot stretch in September that saw Thomas Tuchel’s men score 20 goals over 4 games, including a Champions League 6-0 win over Legia Warsaw, the Dortmund team has cooled off going winless in their last 3 games, including a 2-2 home tie versus Real Madrid. Borussia will be at full fitness, benefitting from the returns of Lukasz Piszczek and Sokratis Papastathopoulos from injuries.
On the other side, a home win by Sporting may prove decisive in the battle to advance to the play-off stage. The Portuguese side came within five minutes of upsetting Real Madrid on the road and took care of business in their second Champions League game at home against Legia Warsaw, the group’s minnows. Manager Jorge Jesus will benefit from an extra day of rest as Sporting’s last game was Thursday night. Their only injury issue is midfielder Adrien Silva out with a knee injury.

The stakes are high in this one and it will be interesting to see if the home side chooses to commit men forward in search of a win. Bryan Ruiz and Bas Dost will be a handful for the Borussia defenders. Borussia has tremendous speed on the flanks and upfront, so they may be happy sitting back and counterattacking. With all the offensive firepower available on display, we should see some goals in this one, with the game ultimately ending in a tie.
