Alabama Crimson Tide freshman sensation Jalen Hurts is having a freshman season to remember. Here are five reasons why he can take home the Heisman Trophy.

As December nears, it is time to start thinking about the upcoming Heisman Trophy race. Quarterbacks are always the front-runners given the fact that eight out of the past ten winners have played the position. As of late, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson’s grip on the award has come loose after a few unworldly (by his standards) showings opening the door for other candidates. Speaking of candidates emerging into the conversation, the recent play of Jalen Hurts gives good reason why he can walk away with the prestigious award.

Here are five reasons to stating why Jalen Hurts can win the Heisman Trophy.

5. Playing for Alabama helps

When it comes winning the Heisman trophy, exposure matters. It’s obvious to believe that the trophy is won on the field, but as we’ve seen in recent memory, teams with added national prestige conquered.

Just last year, the debate between Christian McCaffrey and Alabama’s Derrick Henry was valid when looking at their numbers. To no surprise, Henry won in considerable fashion. If the award was solely won on the field, McCaffrey would have taken the trophy back to Stanford. As McCaffrey surpassed Barry Sanders record for all-purpose yards and having more total yards than Henry, it still wasn’t enough to thrust him ahead.

Hurts being the star quarterback for a national powerhouse makes it easy to garner Heisman Trophy consideration. As the Crimson Tide boast the nation’s best ranking, having debatably the best player in the country goes hand in hand.

Unlike viable candidates, who have the stats, being in a small market or low-level program doesn’t help them. In Hurt’s case, he doesn’t have that problem due to the playing for one of the most recognized universities in the country.

Alabama is no stranger to having Heisman candidates. Therefore, they will send out emails to college football media and others that have voted. Sending emails and messages with Hurts’ stats and highlights is another ploy to heighten his Heisman hopes.
