The Green Bay Packers will be without Eddie Lacy for their Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears.

Packers running back Eddie Lacy will officially miss this Thursday night’s meeting with the Chicago Bears with an injured left ankle. Lacy, who already has a lengthy injury history throughout his four-year career, appeared to aggravate his left ankle for the first time this season in the second half of Green Bay’s Week 5 matchup with the New York Giants.

Battling through the pain, Lacy was able to play 31 of 70 total offensive plays against Dallas while picking up 65 rushing yards on 17 carries, even managing to hurdle a Cowboys defender on three separate occasions.

Green Bay has prepared for this news, however, trading for Kansas City Chiefs running back Knile Davis who had fallen out of favor with the team after the return of Jamaal Charles.

Despite his recent inactivity, Davis can be an explosive running back and return man when called upon. Throughout his career in Kansas City, Davis found the end zone 12 times through the air and on the ground, as well as an extra two times on kickoff returns. He might be best known for his dazzling 106-yard kickoff return touchdown against the Houston Texans on the opening kickoff of last year’s Wild Card weekend.

Although the news was made official today, Green Bay’s front office had anticipated the inevitable. Along with the acquisition of Davis, the Packers promoted practice squad running back Don Jackson to the active roster yesterday. Jackson is a rookie undrafted free agent from Nevada who appears to be set to make his NFL debut under the bright lights of Thursday Night Football.

The Packers will hope to salvage what should be a favorable matchup against the Chicago Bears without their bell cow running back. While rumors of this becoming a multi-week injury float around, Lacy will hope to be ready to go for Green Bay’s week eight clash with the Atlanta Falcons
