Dallas Cowboys rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has taken the league by storm. And if you weren’t a fan of him for his play, you will be for his off-field actions.

Dak Prescott was the 135th overall draft pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. The 23-year old quarterback was taken with intentions of being Tony Romo’s backup, but with Romo sidelined by injuries, Prescott has led the Cowboys to a 5-1 record.

He’s been the focus of virtually every headline and football fan as he breaks rookie records and continues to win. But many may not know just how special he is.

During Week 3 of the season, Prescott could have accepted tickets to Kanye West’s Saint Pablo Tour. Instead, he chose to stay home, watch the Patriots dominate the Texans, and catch up on sleep.

In a league where it isn’t uncommon for young stars to go out, party, and lose themselves in super stardom (*cough* Johnny Manziel *cough*), Prescott is showing maturity, dedication, and the ability to be a franchise quarterback.

He’s already shown these attributes numerous times throughout the 2016 season. Just this week, he chose to turn down a late-night television appearance along with endorsement deals. However, this time the reason was family.

“It’s football and family,” Prescott said, via the Star-Telegram. “That’s what I focus on. If I have time to get away and spend time with my family that I’m not going to get to do for a while, that I haven’t done for a while,. I’m going to take advantage of it. It’s more important to me to spend time with my family than go with those deals.”

Dak Prescott then explained what “those deals” were and his rationale behind turning them down.

“One of them was a late night show with somebody. Another one was out of country and that was definitely no,” he said. “Those deals will be there. If they really want it bad enough, they will find a way.”

While many players take the bye week as a mini-vacation to Miami or Las Vegas, Prescott talked about spending it with family at home in Lousiana. Specifically, Prescott said he wants to go fishing since it is harder to do in Dallas with all the work necessary to play for the Cowboys.

“I want to go home and be away,” Prescott said. “I got all the time in the world to do that to go to Vegas or Miami. I can do that in the offseason. I’ve got one weekend during this long strenuous period. I’m going to go get off my feet.”

As Dak Prescott remains the subject of headlines and a quarterback controversy, he’s not getting caught up in the spotlight. It’s easy for athletes to lose themselves, especially in Dallas when you are leading the Cowboys to victories over the Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnatti Bengals, and Green Bay Packers.

The Dallas Cowboys have a Week 7 bye but return on October 30th to play the Philadelphia Eagles. Dak Prescott was named the starting quarterback and he’s also acting like one.
