Full analysis of the Nintendo Switch console
With the new Nintendo Switch game console being revealed during a preview trailer on Thursday, here’s a full analysis of the console.
After quite a few months of waiting and wondering when Nintendo would reveal their next console, codenamed the NX, on Thursday, they finally revealed the NX, which is now known as the Nintendo Switch. To our surprise, much of the speculation and rumors surrounding the new console were true.
Shortly after the brief presentation and revealing of the new Nintendo Switch, Nintendo U.K. released a full press release on the new console, which details almost everything we should know and what we should expect from the console so far. Eventually, we should get another video or presentation, which goes more in depth about the Switch. But, let’s discuss and analyze what we know.
How the console works
The most interesting aspect is the console itself. It looks like the Switch console is the screen itself and to charge it or play it on your TV, you place it on the Nintendo Switch Dock.
Other than the console and the dock, what stands out the most is the console being a hybrid, meaning that it can be both a home console, where you play normally on your TV screen, or you can detach it and play it on a portable screen, much like the Wii U’s gamepad.
In the set of images below, you can see how players will be able to play the Nintendo Switch. First of all, the TV screen.
But, as stated before, you can also play on a portable screen and this is possibly the most similar feature to that of the Wii U.
Now, things start to get very interesting. Earlier rumors suggested that although the new console would have a portable screen that you can play on, it would also have detachable controllers. These detachable controllers are known as Joy-Con (Left or Right). You can use the Joy-Con remotes to play on the big screen, the small screen, or if you have a friend over, you can lend them one of the Joy-Con remotes and play locally together.
The Joy-Con remotes will also have a grip known as the Joy-Con grip, which you attach both remotes too and it makes one regular controller.
Finally, the last remote is most likely the most classic and basic one, which caters to everyone, really. It’s called the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
The best part about this console is its variety. There’s many ways to play to your liking, which is what Nintendo does best.
The games and third-party support
While the console looks extremely cool, a video game platform isn’t much without games. From the reveal trailer alone, we can already see that we have quite a few games to look forward too. In the images above, you can already see The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8, which seems like they’ll be porting to the Switch. But, there’s also many other games shown off throughout the trailer. But, before we get into that, let’s talk about the format of the games.
It looks like the Switch won’t be using discs and will go back to cartridges/chips. Much like the 3DS, this is a great idea and once again, Nintendo sets themselves apart from the rest of the consoles in the gaming industry.
Now, back to the games. One of them is another Wii U port, Splatoon. It’s great that Nintendo is looking to port some of their best Wii U games to the Switch. With Splatoon thriving with its online multiplayer, it’s the perfect game for the Switch.
One other game that stood out was a new Mario game. Obviously, from the short footage, it’s evident that its still in its early stages and it’s probably still in development, but this only shows that the lineup for the Switch is looking to be awesome.
Finally, Nintendo finally seems to be embracing third-party support. In the trailer, we saw some clips of players playing the upcoming Skyrim Remastered as well as the recently released NBA 2K17.
With these two games, we’re only scratching the surface of the lineup the Switch has in store. Check out the list of developers who are looking to develop games for the console.
There’s still a lot more to learn about the Nintendo Switch, but with what we know so far, including how we will play the console and the games we will play on it, the only thing we wish for is a fast-forward button.
