It’s been a nightmare season for the Oregon Ducks who have gone 2-4 after beginning the year in the AP Top 25. Oregon was expected to be a major player in the Pac-12, but the Ducks have lost four games in a row after a 2-0 start and many are wondering if this is the end of Mark Helfrich.
This team is not void of talent, though. Dakota Prukop, a Montana State grad transfer, was expected to be the starter for this team at quarterback, but found himself benched last week for freshman Justin Herbert. The latter didn’t do much better and there’s a growing battle taking place in Eugene.
Oregon does have one of the best rushing offenses in the country, averaging over 250 yards per game. Royce Freeman leads the way with 513 yards and seven touchdowns on 7.7 yards per carry and Tony Brooks-James is right behind with 331 yards and six touchdowns.
It’s tough to judge what type of team California is this season. Are the Golden Bears the same team that beat Texas and Utah or the one that lost to San Diego State and Oregon State? A lot of the potential success depends on Davis Webb’s health.
In fact, Webb injured his hand just last week and played poorly against Oregon State in the overtime loss. He finished just 23-of-44 with 113 yards and an interception. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country and will continue to be.
Chad Hansen is his top target, catching 59 passes for 770 yards and eight touchdowns, playing the role of the main beneficiary of the Texas Tech transfer quarterback.
