Dede Westbrook was left uncovered and scored a 49-yard touchdown for the Oklahoma Sooners in the first quarter.
Oklahoma wide receiver Dede Westbrook continues to be a reliable weapon for quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mayfield capitalized on lack of coverage once again by throwing a 49-yard bomb to Westbrook. Westbrook easily hauled it in for a touchdown. This gave the Sooners a 13-0 lead over Texas Tech in the first quarter. The Sooners and Red Raiders are still halfway through the first quarter, so they are bound to score plenty more points against an abysmal Texas Tech defense.

Mayfield has performed flawlessly for the Sooners so far. As of the Sooners’ last scoring drive, he has thrown for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 4-of-5 passing. Westbrook now has 45 catches for 790 yards and nine touchdowns. Mayfield is starting to recapture the magic that nearly made him a Heisman Trophy finalist in his junior season. He has completed over 70 percent of his passes while throwing for 18 touchdown passes.
Meanwhile, Westbrook will put himself on the list of great Oklahoma receivers if he can keep this up. This list consists of wide receivers such as Sterling Shepard, Kenny Stills and Ryan Broyles. The senior receiver emerged as a key weapon in 2015, his first season at Oklahoma. He has broken out as Mayfield’s most reliable weapon since Shepard was lost to the NFL Draft.

It remains to be seen how many points Oklahoma can score in this game. Scoring at least 40 or even 50 points seems to be well within reach for a high-octane Sooners offense though. The Red Raiders have responded with a touchdown since Westbrook’s touchdown catch. The Sooners appear to be unstoppable at this point, though.
