Oklahoma Sooners running back Joe Mixon got the ball rolling for his team by scoring a 56-yard touchdown against Texas Tech.

Oklahoma immediately stormed out to a lead over Texas Tech on Saturday. Running back Joe Mixon was found wide open as he caught a 56-yard touchdown pass. Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield immediately recognized the lack of coverage on Mixon. The Sooners running back blazed past Texas Tech defenders to score within the first two minutes of the game.

Unfortunately, the Sooners will not be able to rest easy since they missed the extra point. They still hold a 13-0 lead over the Red Raiders, but they will look to bury them while they can.

The Sooners entered this game with a 4-2 record while being ranked 16th in the country. They endured a difficult start to the season with losses to No. 11 Houston and No. 2 Ohio State. However, Oklahoma has proven that they can still hang with most of their other competitors in the nation. They are also still strong contenders to win the Big 12 title if they can hang on for a win tonight.

The Sooners offense has capitalized on big plays. They have been greatly helped by Mayfield throwing for 125 yards and two touchdowns on 4-of-5 passing.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech entered this game with a 3-3 record. They figure to be a middle-of-the-road team in the Big 12 once again. Their defensive woes have piled up with embarrassing performances such as a 68-55 loss to Arizona State. They most recently endured a 48-17 blowout loss to No. 12 West Virginia. Allowing big plays continues to be a glaring problem for them.

It remains to be seen whether Texas Tech can recover from their slow start. Judging by their past 2016 games, it appears that another blowout may be on the horizon.
