What did Lamar Jackson do during Saturday’s game against North Carolina State?
Lamar Jackson has been the star of the college football season. He has led Louisville to a 5-1 record, which nearly had been 6-0 with their close game against Clemson. Despite this, Jackson remains a Heisman Trophy candidate and is probably the frontrunner to win the award.
On Saturday, the 19-year-old would look to improve his resume against North Carolina State. The Wolf Pack were coming off an overtime loss to the Tigers, so could they make Jackson’s day rough?
Jackson would open Saturday’s game with a 36-yard rushing touchdown. Louisville had quickly moved down the field and into NC State territory. They gave the ball to their star player, and he took off with the defense nowhere close to him.
After NC State punted the ball, Louisville had about 88 yards to go for their next score. However, Jackson made up just about all of this with a 74-yard dime to wide receiver Jaylen Smith for a touchdown. This put them up, 17-0.
The third touchdown from the Heisman hopeful came in the middle of the second quarter. He hit Jeremy Smith for 17 yards, which put the Cardinals into the red zone. A quick three-yard pass to Cole Hikutini would get them another score to have them ahead, 34-0.
For Jackson’s fourth touchdown of the game, he threw an absolute bullet to Jamari Staples for a touchdown. At 41-0 in the second quarter, the game was out of reach.
The second half didn’t see Jackson score any touchdowns as Jeremy Smith added a score. The sophomore quarterback didn’t need to add to his total, though, as deficit had already been huge at 51-13. This ended his day at 431 yards and four total touchdowns.
