Leicester City return to Premier League action after winning again in the Champions League. The Foxes saw off FC Copenhagen 1-0 with Riyad Mahrez scoring the only goal and Kasper Schmeichel making some important saves. The challenge now for Claudio Ranieri’s side is to replicate their Champions League form in the English Premier League. Last year’s champions have struggled in the league this year and only have two victories from their first eight matches. They have already lost more matches than they did last year and desperately need to turn things around if they even want to make the top four.
Crystal Palace sit three points and four places ahead of Leicester in the league table but they should present The Foxes with the perfect opportunity to get their domestic mojo back. Alan Pardew’s side suffered a 1-0 loss to West Ham last week in a game which Christian Benteke missed a penalty. Aaron Cresswell caused Palace problems all day and he combined well with Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini for the goal. With this in mind there could be a case for Jeffrey Schlupp starting instead of Christian Fuchs in the left back position.
After their midweek victory over Copenhagen Claudio Ranieri stated that he was very angry at his side’s league form. It is clear though that he been resting some of best players in preparation for Champions League matches despite him also suggesting that the Premier League is his priority. He can take solace in the fact that both of Leicester’s victories have come at home and they are yet to lose there this season. Pace could be the key to victory in this match. Crystal Palace’s defence are not the fastest and with Musa and Vardy Leicester have two of the fastest players in the Premier League.
