The Big 12 doesn’t play real defense. Says who? The Oklahoma State Cowboys pick off Kansas’ Montell Cozart and pull off a crazy return on the interception.

The lowly Kansas Jayhawks were keeping it interesting versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday afternoon in Lawrence. Kansas only has one win on the season, but were hanging tough with the superior Cowboys at home.

Then something strange happened. Down 31-20, Kansas quarterback Montell Cozart heaves it deep into double coverage. Oklahoma State’s Jordan Sterns would pick off Cozart’s pass for a 21-yard return. How the Cowboys got the ball to the Kansas 16-yard line was just pure nonsense.

First off, the ball would be battled into Stearns’ hands by his Cowboys defensive back teammate. The camera initially thought the ball would be downed deep in Cowboys’ territory on that pick.

Stearns would run up the field before handing the ball off to defensive lineman Vincent Taylor at the Oklahoma State 40-yard line. Taylor would gain an additional 15 yards by crossing midfield before executing an excellent shovel pass to defensive end Jarrell Owens.

Owens wasn’t expecting a pitch from Taylor obviously. It hit him right in the chest, but he bobbled it a bit. Owens would take the return further to the Kansas 16-yard line before being tackled by a slew of Jayhawks offensive players.

The Cowboys would run four plays on that offensive series before kicking a field goal to put Oklahoma State up 34-20 on Kansas. That return was all kinds of crazy for the Cowboys.
