West Ham have started to put their terrible start to the season behind them in their past couple of games. They drew with Middlesbrough in their last match before the international break and last week they won their first game since August away at Crystal Palace. The Hammers played with much more intensity with and without the ball and, while they were lucky to see Christian Benteke miss a penalty, there was a lot to like about the performance. Slaven Bilic will expect nothing less than another win against a struggling Sunderland side.
David Moyes’ Sunderland career hasn’t gotten of to the start he would have hoped for. Sunderland are the only team in the league without a win, and Moyes is under increasing pressure. Moyes’ best Everton teams typically improved in the second half of the season, but he may not get that sort of time at a club that has never been shy about firing managers in the middle of the season. Sunderland are only four points from safety after eight games, but they could find themselves much further adrift if results don’t improve soon.

West Ham will be confident after their strong performance at Crystal Palace. Sunderland are not on the same level as the Eagles, but they’re much more desperate.
