On Sunday, the New York Jets defeated the Baltimore Ravens 24-16 at Metlife Stadium.
Maybe Ryan Fitzpatrick should come off the bench every week? Geno Smith started but was injured in the second quarter. He hurt his knee and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Fitzpatrick came in and did his job against a stingy Baltimore defense.
Baltimore had a blocked punt in the first quarter which put them up seven, but their offense was stagnant for the rest of the game, a theme that has been reoccurring for the last four weeks. Joe Flacco had two INT’s as the Jets pass rush ate him up, though that wouldn’t show on the stat sheet.
New York forced Baltimore into multiple third and longs, as Baltimore was only 2/12 on third downs. The Jets offense did just enough, with the run game thriving. This Baltimore team fired their offensive coordinator, Marc Trestman two weeks ago but so far the move hasn’t paid dividends. Unfortunately for Baltimore, they just don’t have much talent on that side of the ball. Their lack of depth on offense really showed up today.
Three Stars
1. Quincy Enunwa
The tight end/receiver had a 69-yard catch touchdown from Geno Smith that got the Jets offense going early. He finished with only two receptions, for 73 yards and a touchdown. But it was a huge score for the Jets.
2. Mike Wallace
The receiver racked up over 100 yards receiving and was the only bright spot for the Ravens offense. He caught 10 of 13 targets for 120 yards, including a 53-yard catch.
3. Matt Forte
Forte had his share of carries and was able to rack up yards on a Baltimore defense that came into the game ranked #1 in the NFL in rushing. Forte had a whopping 29 carries for 98 yards and a score on the ground. He also had four catches for 54 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Next Week
After taking on the Ravens, the Jets will fly to Cleveland and play the Browns. Baltimore has a bye next week but will host the Steelers on November 6.
