Pokemon GO celebrates Halloween with in-game event

It’s been three months since Pokemon GO was released, and the craze has died down. But Niantic has a trick up its sleeve to get you back in the game.

Who says candy is only for kids on Halloween? Niantic says it’s also for Pokemon trainers.

From Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, Pokemon GO will be hosting its first ever seasonal event. According to a Niantic press release, trainers will have an increased chance of catching certain Pokemon that fit the theme of Halloween — Drowzee, Gastly, Gengar, Golbat, Haunter, Hypo, and (joy of joys) Zubat.

“We would like to trick-or-treat in our own special way by giving Trainers the chance to catch more Pokémon and earn extra Candy this Halloween,” said Niantic senior product manager, Tatsuo Nomura. More Pokemon candy? We like the sound of that. Just how much extra candy can we expect?

Pokemon GO will be giving out six Pokemon candies for every Pokemon caught during this event. You will also get two candies for transferring Pokemon to Professor Oak. Buddy Pokemon will also be giving you four candies instead of the usual one.

Basically, if there’s a Pokemon you’ve been struggling to evolve, now is the time.

“We anticipate seeing many Pokémon-themed costumes during this anniversary year,” said J.C. Simth, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokemon Company. “And now Trainers can add Pokémon GO to their trick-or-treat route to receive Candy and add some of the spookier Pokémon to their Pokédex.”
