17. player. 142. The Washington Wizards signed shooting guard Bradley Beal to a max contract in the offseason, meaning they now have a substantial portion of their cap space tied up in one of the league’s best backcourts (when healthy). Given that, the Wizards will need to find cheap, but effective frontcourt players to round out the roster.

Duke freshman center Marques Bolden has an excellent physical profile to play center in the NBA. Standing 6-foot-11 and weighing in at 250 pounds, Bolden is on the larger side of college centers in this draft. With a college level workout regimen, he should lean out his frame, making him quicker and more agile. Bolden’s length (7-foot-6 wingspan and 9-foot-4.5 standing reach) is also impressive and gives him excellent upside as a rim protector and defensive rebounder at the next level. The 18-year old prospect is only a so-so player on the offensive end, but he’s capable of finishing in catch-and-score spots and should be able to develop his game more with time.

Perhaps the biggest concern about pairing Bolden with the Wizards is the latter’s transition to a faster style of play. In order to fit in the modern NBA, Bolden will need to be prodded into running the floor with more consistency, but the physical tools are there for him to be an impactful player at the next level.
.
