Giants release kicker Josh Brown amid controversy
The New York Giants have announced the release of kicker Josh Brown following his admissions of abuse.
The clock was ticking on Josh Brown’s tenure with the New York Giants. The team finally announced his release on Tuesday following his admissions of abuse last week.
Two months ago, during the NFL’s original investigation into Brown, he was suspended just one game. That came with a litany of complaints, and rightfully so. The NFL’s personal conduct policy calls for a six game ban for first-time offenders. Given the type of ban that Tom Brady received for “Deflategate,” it confused many.
It’s amazing that this decision wasn’t made sooner given the nature of domestic abuse within the NFL. This is after documents were released last week that showed Brown’s admission of abusing his ex-wife. He was at first placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on Friday before being cut today. Brown released a statement on the matter earlier today:
It’s safe to say that Brown’s NFL career is over. All you need to do is look at Ray Rice to realize that the league is not kind to players who are known abusers. Rice vowed to donate his entire paycheck if he was picked up by a team, but there were no takers.

The Giants will now move on without Brown. The team released a statement of their own following Brown’s release. Team president John Mara said the following:
"“We believed we did the right thing at every juncture in our relationship with Josh. Our beliefs, our judgments and our decisions were misguided. We accept that responsibility.”"
This is now a situation the Giants will wish to put behind them. Now kicking for the G-men will be former-Bears kicker, Robbie Gould. Gould flew from the states to meet up with the team in London for this past Sunday’s game against the Rams.
