1. Run, Lindsay, Run!

The Late Larry Munson made some of the most iconic calls in all of college football when he was the play-by-play genius for the Bulldogs. From freshman Herschel Walker running over a Tennessee linebacker to Kevin Butler’s kick at home versus Clemson to even Hobnail Boot versus Tennessee, one Munson call tops them all.

Munson’s call of the Buck Belue’s 93-yard touchdown pass to Lindsay Scott might be the single greatest play call in the State of Georgia’s history. It’s up their with Hank Aaron’s 715th home run and the night that Sid Bream slid to send the 1992 Atlanta Braves to the World Series.

Georgia is undefeated entering the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville versus Florida. The Bulldogs were down to Florida with a minute to play on their own seven-yard line. On a third and 11, Belue drops back to pass and hits Scott at the middle of the field. From there, Scott was off to the races and score a 93-yard touchdown.

Georgia would win the game over No. 20 Florida, 26-21. The Bulldogs would go a perfect 12-0 (6-0) and win the 1980 National Championship over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl, 17-10.

The play call from Munson is known as ‘Run, Lindsay, Run’. He got so excited, he broke through his metal chair. For those that didn’t see (me included), this play was on par with Auburn’s Kick Six of Alabama. This, Doug Flutie’s Hail Mary, and the band running on the field in Cal-Stanford are the best plays college football had to offer in the 1980s.
