LeBron James and Dwyane Wade’s World Series bet is finally here
By Dan O'shea
The World Series will end a streak and bring humiliation to one of these stars.
Regardless of who walks away the victor, the World Series match-up between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians will end one of the longest championship droughts in the MLB. One future NBA Hall of Famer will also see his lifelong team hoist up a championship.
Both Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are familiar with winning titles. They’re also both familiar with the pain and suffering of fandom. Wade, the Chicago native, and LeBron, the man who finally brought a championship to his hometown of Cleveland, are both looking to finally see one of their teams bring a championship home.
The Indians’ 67-year World Series drought seems like a walk in the park compared to the Cubs’ 107 years without a title. Regardless, both James and Wade understand the significance of this World Series. An opportunity like this may never come again.
No better time to place a friendly wager.
Wade initially threw the gauntlet down once the Cubs clinched a birth to the World Series, and LeBron graciously accepted. The possibilities of the bet were endless. Two athletes who posses all the money in the world, with everything on the line.
Instead, we have a jersey bet.
Naturally, LeBron accepted.
Come on. The two longest active World Series droughts in baseball, and this is what we’re going with? Unless these two dress up in full mascot costumes, this fell a little flat.
One of them will end the season on cloud nine, celebrating the championship of a lifetime, other than their own of course. The other gets to add another year to the seemingly endless streak while suffering a very slight amount of humiliation.
