Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson is undergoing surgery today to repair a torn meniscus.

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson will undergo surgery today to repair a torn meniscus. The news comes a blow to Denver, as Anderson was coming off his best performance of the season when he went down with the injury. The injury was initially thought to be a bone bruise, but a second opinion confirmed that it was a torn meniscus and would require arthroscopic surgery to repair. Anderson suffered the injury in Monday in a win against the Houston Texans.

There has been some lack of clarity surrounding the injury. At first,  Anderson denied the injury report on Twitter, but later deleted those tweets, vowing to stay off social media:

It turns out the initial reports were true, and he will undergo surgery today. There is good news, however. Mike Klis, for 9News, reported today that Anderson has a “significant but not complete” meniscus tear, and will likely be out for eight to twelve weeks. The Broncos can wait six weeks to designate Anderson as eligible to return from the Injured Reserve list. This means that although he is not technically done for the season, he won’t be eligible to be on the active roster for another eight weeks, putting him at a Week 16 return at the earliest.

Devontae Booker will take over in Anderson’s absence. The rookie has shown good potential so far and it will be a good test for him. He has averaged a respectable 4.8 yards per carry this year.

In seven games so far this season Anderson has 437 rushing yards, 128 receiving yards and five total touchdowns. Last year, he was integral to the Bronco’s championship run. He had 720 rushing yards and five touchdowns during the regular season. In the Super Bowl, he had one touchdown in a victory against the Carolina Panthers.
