World Series Game 3 recap: Indians blank the Cubs 1-0
The Cleveland Indians blanked the Chicago Cubs 1-0 to take a 2-1 lead in Game 3 of the 2016 World Series.
The Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago Cubs in a 1-0 shutout to take a 2-1 lead during a windy Game 3 of the 2016 World Series.
One of the highlights of the game came in the middle of the seventh inning when Bill Murray came on as the guest conductor for “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
The game was a battle of pitchers as both pitching staffs held the game scoreless through the top of the seventh inning. The Indians finally broke the bubble and scored a run off an RBI base hit from Coco Crisp, who came in off the bench to drive in Michael Martinez.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jorge Soler sliced a fly ball down the right field line that took Lonnie Chisenhall to the wall. Soler made it to third base for a triple, but Javier Baez grounded out on the next play to end the inning.
The pitching duel continued through the ninth inning, with both teams landing runners on bases but never able to manufacture a run aside from the Indians’ sole run in the seventh. Javier Baez was the last man up for the Cubs with two men on base, but he struck out on a high fastball.
Kyle Hendricks started on the mound for the Cubs. So far Hendricks has been solid throughout the postseason putting up a 1.65 ERA in 16.1 innings of work. He stayed in Game 3 for 4.1 innings and saw six hits and six strikeouts.

Josh Tomlin was dominant through 4.2 innings of work, only allowing two hits with one strikeout. Tomlin gets the win for the night, going to 2-1 on the postseason. (In a feel good-story of the night, Tomlin’s parents were able to join him at the game. His father, Jerry, recently suffered health issues that left him partially paralyzed.)
By the end of the game the Indians had brought four pitchers into the game while the Cubs had six.
