Sergio Aguero has scored a first-half brace to put West Brom to the sword after only 28 minutes played at the Hawthorns.

Sergio Aguero has scored his 12th and 13th goal in all competitions — and in short succession — to give Manchester City a 2-0 lead at the Hawthorns.

Aguero has his team-leading sixth and seventh Premier League goals to give Manchester City a deserved early stranglehold over the Baggies. The Argentine striker couldn’t have responded better amidst reports of a rift with manager Pep Guardiola.

Ben Foster was left with no chance on either goal, as Ilkay Gundogan linked up with Aguero perfectly to penetrate West Brom’s defense early. Aguero made a telling run and received a perfect through ball from the German international to put West Brom on the back foot early.

His second was even better, as Aguero unleashed a piercing drive from outside the box. It flew into the top of the goal with pace and verve. Watch out when Aguero is on this kind of form.

West Brom have lost nine straight against City, a record that, based on the early proceedings, looks like it will continue. City are unbeaten in 13 matches against the Baggies, last losing to them in December 2008.

City have now scored 22 goals in the league, which is second behind Arsenal’s 24. Their prolific attack is spearheaded by Aguero, who is an integral part to City’s dynamic offensive lineup.

City haven’t won a game in three Premier League encounters but look to get back to winning ways at the Hawthorns. This match is crucial for both teams, but probably more so for City, who will feel they need to keep pace with the top five teams, all of whom are separated by only four points.

City will go level at the top of the Premier League table with a win today after Arsenal dismantled Sunderland 4-1 earlier in  the day while the Baggies will remain cemented to the bottom half of the table.
