Stanford is one of those teams that just hasn’t lived up to the extremely high expectations bestowed upon it in the offseason. The Cardinal are just 4-3 after losses in three of four games, and two of them were blowouts against Washington State and Washington.
A major issue for Stanford has been the offense. In fact, they haven’t recorded more than 30 points in any game this season and are averaging just 17 points per game, which is 126th in the country. The quarterback situation has contributed to the struggles.
Christian McCaffrey hasn’t had quite the season he was hoping for, either. The junior back hasn’t scored a touchdown since the second game of the season and has just four touchdowns on the year. He also has just 792 total yards.
Arizona has also been struggling this season, going just 2-5 through the first seven games after putting together a fairly successful 2015 campaign. The offense has taken a step back while the defense has been mediocre, at best.
The Wildcats have had a ton of issues at the quarterback situation as well seeing as Anu Solomon was injured in the season opener. He is back this week from injury, but he will have to fight it out with Brandon Dawkins for playing time.
Dawkins passed for 941 yards and five touchdowns with three picks in place of Solomon and he has also led the team in rushing with 484 yards and eight touchdowns. Solomon might be the better option under center, though.
