Autopsy report shows Jose Fernandez was drunk, on cocaine
The toxicology reports about Jose Fernandez’s fatal crash have been published. The reports reveal that he was intoxicated and had cocaine in his system the night of his death.
Jose Fernandez had a blood alcohol concentration of .147 (nearly double the legal limit) and traces of cocaine in his blood at the time of his death. The report was released by Miami-Dade County police Saturday.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Fernandez and his two friends, Emilio Jesus Macias and Eduardo Rivera, had an odor about them that resembled alcohol. Cocaine was also found in Eduardo Rivero’s system along with a blood alcohol content of .065. Emilio Macias’ BAC was .044. All three individuals were determined to have died from blunt-force injuries to the head.
The Marlins pitcher and his two friends died late at night September 25th when Fernandez’s boat crashed into the Government Cut north jetty. It has yet to be determined who was piloting the boat at the time of the crash.
There have also been reports that Jose Fernandez was seen at American Social Bar & Kitchen the night of the crash. A receipt for alcohol at the bar was also recovered from the pocket of one of the deceased.
Fellow Marlins player, Marcell Ozuna, previously stated that Jose Fernandez invited him out that night to join him on the boat. Fortunately for Ozuna, he declined. Ozuna was one of many people who attended the numerous memorial services in Fernandez’s honor.

It remains unknown whether any charges could be brought in the case as boating homicide while intoxicated and vessel homicide. Both claims remain under investigation. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation is also investigating the fatal crash.
