The No. 14 Florida Gators defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 9, 24-10. Here are all the highlights, the game recap, and the final score.
For the third straight year, the Florida Gators win the Okefenokee Oar by beating the Georgia Bulldogs. It was mostly a defensive struggle, but the Gators ability to run the ball was the difference in this one. Florida beat Georgia, 24-10.
This has the Gators at 6-1 on the season and in the driver’s seat in the SEC East. They’ll need to beat Arkansas and LSU to get to Atlanta, but this is the best team in the SEC East. Georgia stumbles to 4-4 on the season. This is the Bulldogs’ fourth SEC loss and Georgia is in serious jeopardy of getting to a bowl now that it has lost four of its last five games.
There wasn’t a lot of exciting plays in this game, but if you are a fan of defensive line play, this game was for you. Bryan Cox, Jr. and the Florida defensive line annihilated Georgia’s terrible tackle tandem of Tyler Catalina and Greg Pyke all afternoon.
Georgia’s true freshman quarterback Jacob Eason barely had any time to the throw the football. It didn’t help that Nick Chubb ran the ball nine times for 20 yards. He’s not the same player after his devastating knee injury last year and he might even have to come back to Athens for his senior season to salvage his plummeting draft stock.
The one positive for Georgia was that it did rough up Florida quarterback Jack Del Rio at bit. Tracy Rocker’s defensive line played well, so that’s one area where the Bulldogs aren’t struggling with.
Florida may not have the pedigree of a College Football Playoff team, but it has its opportunity to make it to the National Semifinals if it wins out. The Gators do play a style of ball that is conducive of winning championship-level football: ground-and-pound on offensive and lockdown defense.
Three Stars
- Jordan Scarlett: Scarlett was the offensive player that Florida leaned on in this one. He had 26 carries for 96 yards and a rushing touchdown.
- Antonio Callaway: Callaway was the best receiving target for Del Rio in this game. He had four catches for 42 yards and a four-yard rushing touchdown on a jet sweep.
- Bryan Cox, Jr.: The Florida defensive line had Eason running for his life in the Georgia backfield. With that club on his hand, Cox was easily the most frightening player on the stout Florida defense in this huge rivalry game.
