Oklahoma Sooners outside linebacker Jordan Evans is so good at football, he can run the wrong way and still get a pick-six on the terrible Kansas Jayhawks.
These aren’t really big revelations, but the Oklahoma Sooners are outstanding at college football and the Kansas Jayhawks are anything but that. Oklahoma was beating lowly Kansas senseless in Norman on Saturday and then something crazy happen.
Down 42-3 halfway through the third quarter, Sooners outside linebacker Jordan Evans is able to pick off Kansas quarterback Montell Cozart and run it back for a pick-six. The most ridiculous part of Evans’ interception return for a touchdown was that he briefly ran in the wrong direction.
Defensive backs usually have the best eyes to dice up opposing offenses on interception returns. Linebackers sometimes know what they’re doing. It’s really up in the air what happens when a defensive lineman comes down with a grab.
Evans reads Cozart’s telegraphed pass easily and then proceeds to run a few yards forward before backtracking. He made up his mind in thinking that the best solution to score was to run backwards to evade a handful of Jayhawks before hitting paydirt.
To salvage this wonky interception return, Evans accelerates on a hairpin turn to shake three Jayhawks before scampering into the end zone almost untouched. For Kansas, it’s basketball season anyway, so the Jayhawks faithful are alright. For Oklahoma, can the Sooners continue to take care of business in the Big 12 to another conference championship?
