Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson connects with wide receiver Jaylen Smith for the game-winning touchdown against the Virginia Cavaliers.

The No. 5 Louisville Cardinals were able to win on the road in Charlottesville against the Virginia Cavaliers in dramatic fashion, 32-25. Louisville trailed the Cavaliers, 25-24 with less than two minutes remaining after Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall decided to go for two to prevent overtime.

That gave Cardinals sophomore sensation quarterback Lamar Jackson a little under two minutes to get Louisville on the board to prevent from being upset. He orchestrates a fantastic drive, capped off by an impressive game-winning 29-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jaylen Smith.

Louisville would manage to hang on by stunning the Cavaliers in Charlottesville, 32-27. Jackson carried his teammates to victory in this game by throwing for four touchdowns on 361 yards.

The Cardinals kept committing penalties on the offensive of the ball that obviously frustrated Jackson and especially head coach Bobby Petrino. Louisville has been penalized a ton in 2016, but that hasn’t really mattered until this game against Virginia.

Jackson had his receivers drop a ton of balls in this game. Louisville trailed Virginia 10-7 at halftime and was on the brink of being upset on multiple occasions in this game. Eventually, the more talented Louisville team would prevail. This should keep the Cardinals in the top five of the AP Top 25 Poll entering Week 10.

For now, the Cardinals have to wait and see the outcome of the Clemson Tigers’ game at the Florida State Seminoles. Should Clemson fall in Tallahassee, it becomes a little easier for the Cardinals to win the ACC Atlantic. Obviously, Louisville would need Clemson to lose twice to get to Orlando, but winning in Charlottesville at least keeps in the Cardinals in the Atlantic race.
