Virginia was looking to pull off the upset on Saturday and they did so by showing some guts late in the game
Coming into the game on Saturday between the No. 5 Louisville Cardinals and the 2-5 Virginia Cavaliers, there weren’t many people who expected the Cavaliers to come out with the win in this one. For the most part this season, it’s been a little rocky under first-year head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
Well, Mendenhall helped his team out tremendously late in the fourth quarter of this one to make sure that the upset bid would remain intact.
Late in the final quarter of this one, Virginia drove down the field against the stout Louisville defense and eventually scored, bringing the score to 24-23. If you looked all over Twitter, you could see fans crying for the UVA head coach to go for two.
He did, and it paid off. Albert Reid was able to haul in the pass to give the Cavaliers the late shocking lead in this one.
That was the good news at the time.
However, as we would come to find out, the bad news was that the Virginia defense was then left with all the responsibility. That didn’t turn out so well.
Louisville and Lamar Jackson would drive down the field with time running down and although they just needed a field goal for the win, Jackson ended up firing a touchdown strikes, ripping out everyone’s hearts in Charlottesville.

Still, all things considered, this was a pretty positive performance from Virginia today and shows that they might have what it takes to eventually be a contender in the ACC under Mendenhall.
It was also a stern reminder that Mendenhall will never be afraid to take a chance when he has to and we love him dearly for it.
