3. 1995 ALDS – Seattle Mariners vs New York Yankees

The Seattle Mariners never could win a World Series with their future stars Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Rodriguez, and others. They did have an all-time ALDS in 1995, though.

Heading into Game 3, the Mariners were down 2-0 to the New York Yankees. They lost back to back games in the Bronx and looked to reclaim it all in the Kingdome. Games 3 and 4 wouldn’t be blowouts, but Seattle managed to win them both, including the latter game in extra innings. This led to a pivotal Game 5, which went to extra innings.

In the 11th inning, Griffey Jr. and Joey Cora stood at first and second base, respectively. Mariners slugger Edgar Martinez would come to bat and drive a double to left field. In one of the most memorable plays in the franchise’s history, the 2016 MLB Hall of Famer would race from first to home to beat the throw and score the game-winning run. This sent the Mariners to the ALCS in improbable fashion.

While the Mariners have struggled to find postseason success since, they had a memorable comeback and moment to thrive on.
