Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith suffered a concussion against the Indianapolis Colts.
After getting hit hard by Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Alex Smith got up woozy. Later, it was confirmed Smith suffered a concussion. He has left the game and is currently in concussion protocol.
Smith rolled out to his right trying to evade pressure. Smith never saw Jackson coming. It’s an unfortunate injury, and perhaps one which could have been prevented. Smith was visibly wobbly on his feet as his teammate Spencer Ware assists him in getting up.
Without their starting quarterback, the Chiefs will turned to backup quarterback Nick Foles. It is assumed Smith will miss the rest of the game if he is in concussion protocol, and he might be out for at least a week. Foles has seen action with the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams. Andy Reid is a fan of the former Rams quarterback, knowing him from his days in Philly.

Smith has been very good so far this season for the Chiefs. He is the perfect game manager for them. Hopefully for them, Foles can step into his role and replace him. While the Chiefs should still beat the Colts, it has just become a lot more difficult.
In 35 career starts, Foles has 8,805 passing yards. 6,753 of those came with the Eagles. Philly traded him to the Rams in the Sam Bradford trade. Foles will be expected to come in and lead the Chiefs to a victory over the Colts. The Chiefs are not expected to pursue a quarterback at the trade deadline even if Smith is out because the timetable for a return from a concussion varies from player to player.
