It was far from exciting but a win is a win. And the Houston Texans remained perfect at home courtesy of a 20-13 triumph over the visiting Detroit Lions.

The victory kept Bill O’Brien’s team alone atop the AFC South. It also snapped Detroit’s three-game winning streak and left them with a 4-4 record. All eight of the Lions’ games this season have been decided by seven points or less.

Neither team managed to gain at least 300 yards of total offense in the contest. And for the eighth consecutive game this season, Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler committed at least one turnover. He served up his ninth interception of 2016 and fortunately, the miscue didn’t come back to haunt him or his team.

Houston now heads into its off week with a one-game lead over the second-place Tennessee Titans. Perhaps O’Brien and Osweiler can get the Houston offense in order with a little extra time.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. C.J. Fiedorowicz

He’s starting to become a bigger part of Houston’s passing attack. On Sunday, both he and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins were target seven times on the afternoon. The young tight end came away with five receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. This season, Fiedorowicz has totaled a respectable 26 catches for 279 yards and three scores.

2. John Simon

The Houston defense has done its best minus J.J. Watt but Simon has been an unsung performer for this club the last few seasons. On Sunday, he amassed a game-high eight tackles (six solo) and Detroit’s running game managed only 58 yards on 14 carries in the contest.

3. Theo Riddick

Having him back in the lineup is a good thing for Jim Caldwell’s squad. Riddick ran for 56 yards on 11 carries, added 77 more yards and the Lions’ only touchdown on eight receptions. The underrated performer was targeted 11 times by Stafford in the seven-point loss and is now tied for the team lead with four scoring grabs.

Next Week

Houston has a bye week while the Lions will be visiting the Vikings on Sunday afternoon.
