The New Orleans Saints defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 25-20 in Week 8. New Orleans improves to 3-4 on the year, while Seattle falls to 4-2-1 on the season.

The New Orleans Saints took advantage of a tired Seattle Seahawks team to win at home in Week 8, 25-20. New Orleans played great defense against a struggling Seahawks offense to get its third win of the season. Seattle still leads the NFC North, but have now fallen to 4-2-1 on the season.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has not thrown a touchdown pass since October 2nd versus the New York Jets in MetLife Stadium. He’s hobbled, but his teammates aren’t doing a great job of bailing him out in 2016.

Seattle has played an absurd number of defensive snaps the last two weeks. It battled against Drew Brees and the Saints, but rampant penalties proved too costly for Seattle to win on the road in the Big Easy.

This win puts the Saints very much in the NFC South conversation with the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Maybe this lousy Saints defense is getting better or they are playing with an extra level of focus in October. This team looks light years better in the second month of the 2016 NFL season.

It wasn’t a huge shock for the home underdog to beat the Seahawks at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday afternoon. What is odd is that Seattle might be the most likely team to make it to Super Bowl LI in Houston out of the NFC. The Seahawks are far from a complete team.

Three Stars

  1. Drew Brees: Brees completed 27 of 35 passes for 265 yards and a passing touchdown. He would also score a one-yard rushing touchdown for the Saints.
  2. Tim Hightower: Though he didn’t get into the end zone, Hightower was the bell-cow back the Saints needed to beat the Seahawks. He ran the ball 26 times for 102 rushing yards.
  3. Wil Lutz: The Saints needed to lean on their kicker Wil Lutz in this game. He was four for four on field goals with a long of 53. He totaled 13 of the Saints’ 25 points on Sunday afternoon.
