Seven touchdowns is a pretty incredible feat, even if you do it against Samford. On Saturday, Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald went off against the Bulldogs, racking up over 500 yards of total offense. When the dust settled, Fitzgerald has accounted for seven touchdowns, as Mississippi State ended their three-game losing streak.

The 20-year-old sophomore is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the SEC, as he has rushed for over 100 yards four times this season. Saturday’s effort was on another level, as he set a career-high with 417 yards passing. Fitzgerald threw for five touchdowns against Samford, ran for two, and has now racked up 18 total touchdowns in the last five games.

Mississippi State is having a rough season, but with each passing game, Fitzgerald continues to gain valuable playing time. He is the unquestioned leader of the Bulldogs offense, and has now thrown for at least one touchdown in six of his last seven games. No one is expecting him to do what he did against Samford on a regular basis, but he is rounding into a player to watch in the SEC.
