Oklahoma Sooners running back Joe Mixon will be suspended for the Thursday night game against the Iowa State Cyclones for messing with parking attendants.

The Oklahoma Sooners are the No. 12 team in the nation but will be without a key member of their offense on Thursday night against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames. Sooners running back Joe Mixon has been suspended for Thursday night’s game in Ames, for “violating team rules.

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said, “OU sets very high standards and they must be met by all our student-athletes.” Mixon would expand on why he was suspended with this, “I regret that I did not respond appropriately to parking attendants and accept the consequences.”

So how does one “not respond appropriately to parking attendants?” Did Mixon not want to pay for his time in a parking garage or something? Did he drive through the gate without paying? Either way, Mixon cost himself an opportunity to run all over one of the worst Power 5 teams in football on Thursday night.

Iowa State is tied for last in the Big 12 at 1-7 with the equally terrible Kansas Jayhawks. Oklahoma has two losses on the season, but could win the Big 12 at a perfect 9-0 in conference play. The Sooners are probably not going to make the third annual College Football Playoff, however, they look to be the best team in the Big 12. Should they win out, the Sooners should be a lock to make it to either the Sugar or Cotton Bowls.

Oklahoma should be fine without Mixon on Thursday night. The Sooners have an elite passing attack with Baker Mayfield at quarterback and Dede Westbrook at wide receiver. However, Jack Trice Stadium has always been a tough place to play at night in the Big 12, so maybe Mixon’s absence comes back to haunt the Sooners in this one?
