After the 2014 World Series was over, someone predicted the Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs would win it all in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

The Chicago Cubs won the World Series, finally breaking their century-long championship drought. As such, expect a lot of old tweets predicting their success to start going viral. Even so, it’ll be hard to top this person’s tweet who, back in 2014, correctly predicted the World Series in 2015 and 2016:

The time on that is November 3, which is a few days after the 2014 World Series finished. The Kansas City Royals played in that series, ultimately losing to the San Francisco Giants.

Even though teams hardly ever make back-to-back World Series appearances, it was easy to think success for them would come sooner rather than later. The Royals should’ve been eliminated in the Wild Card Game that year, but instead got to within a win of the World Series. But they kept their core pieces and improved their roster which resulted in a win in five games over the New York Mets.

Predicting the Cubs to win was a lot harder. For one, they hadn’t won in over 100 years, so predicting a World Series was always going to be a dicey proposition. But in 2014, they didn’t even make the playoffs — they finished with a 73-89 record. They turned things around in 2015, when they got 97 wins and made it to the NLCS, but nobody could’ve seen that coming, let alone a World Series win, back in 2014.

Cubs nation won’t care who or how many predicted this moment, though. We’ve seen teams break long championship droughts in the past, but nothing compares to this. Even fans who supported the Cubs recently recognize how long some people have waited, while others have gone their whole life without seeing their team win it all. Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs, and all of their deserving fans!
