The Chicago Cubs put 108 years of heartbreak, history, and curses behind them, winning the 2016 World Series. Watch the final out from Game 7.

It’s only fitting that Game 7 of the 2016 World Series would be one of the greatest baseball games of all time. With the Chicago Cubs not having won a World Series since 1908 and the Cleveland Indians not having done so since 1948, history was going to be made. It looked like the Cubs would do it on the road entering the eighth inning, but Rajai Davis had other plans, tying the game with a home run and ultimately sending the game to extra innings.

However, the visiting Cubs came up massive in the top of the 10th. After a Kyle Schwarber single, a pinch-runner, and then a sacrifice fly to advance the runner from Kris Bryant, the Indians walked Anthony Rizzo. That was a bad move as Ben Zobrist made them pay with an RBI double that then left runners at second and third. Following another walk, Miguel Montero delivered another RBI with a single.

Of course, the game wasn’t a runaway. Carl Edwards Jr. got the first two outs, but then allowed a walk. With the runner going, Davis came up big again for the Tribe to drive in the runner, making it 8-7. That got Edwards pulled and brought in Mike Montgomery, the Cubs still needing just one out to make history.

Facing Michael Martinez, it was the biggest moment of Montgomery’s life. After going down 0-1, Martinez swung and hit a soft groundball to Kris Bryant at third. The star scooped it up, made a strong throw to first, and Cubs fans everywhere finally knew what it felt like to win it all:

Unbelievable. There is no “next year” for the Chicago Cubs. They are the 2016 World Series Champions. That’s an out we’ll never forget.
