Theo Epstein after Cubs win World Series: I’m going on a bender (Video)
After winning the 2016 World Series with the Chicago Cubs, president of baseball operations Theo Epstein had some hilarious comments
Theo Epstein was already baseball royalty for what he accomplished with the Boston Red Sox back in 2004. However, he became legendary in Nov. 2016 as his Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series, breaking the 108-year drought without a title. It was something that anyone who’s ever watched baseball has been waiting on for an incredibly long time. And it would seem that Epstein himself was both relieved and ecstatic about it.
Amidst the dozens of interviews the Cubs players and higher-ups had to do, Epstein’s were by far the most entertaining of them. There was one quote in particular that really stuck out.
After he told the city of Chicago that he and the team were coming home to celebrate, he dropped the line of the night. The president of baseball operations for the Cubs looked right in the camera and said, “Jed’s in charge, I’m going a a bender:”
This is everything you could ever want in a baseball executive. Not only is he a curse-breaker who’s exceptional at his job and winning titles, but he’s also ready to party when he does win.
What makes his quote about going on a bender and leaving general manager Jed Hoyer in charge is that he didn’t back down from it. When interviewed by MLB Network later, he only doubled down on it, saying again what his plans were. What a guy.
