Hornets at Nets live stream: How to watch online
By Dan Israeli
The Hornets visit the Nets tonight in Brooklyn. Here’ how to watch online.
The surprisingly competitive Brooklyn Nets (2-3) look to even their record tonight, as they host the Charlotte Hornets (3-1) at the Barclays Center. Opening tip is at 7:30 p.m. for the Eastern Conference matchup.
In what was supposed to be the first game against his former team, Nets point guard Jeremy Lin will sit out tonight and is slated to miss at least two weeks with a left hamstring injury. Lin was off to a strong start with his new team, averaging 15 ppg and 6.2 apg, and will now be replaced by rookie Isaiah Whitehead in the starting lineup. The player who may step up the most in Lin’s absence, however, is emerging third-year guard Sean Kilpatrick. In just over 24 minutes off the bench, Kilpatrick is averaging 16.6 ppg with a stellar shooting line of 47.5/45.5/94.5.
The Nets continue to be anchored by big man Brook Lopez (19.8 ppg), who has remained his old productive self despite some erratic playing time (24:25 mpg) and one DNP. Despite coach Kenny Atkinson’s hesitance to play Lopez big minutes, the early results have been extremely promising for a Nets team with no reason to tank the season, due to their first round pick being owned by the Celtics. The Nets already have impressive wings against the Pacers and Pistons, and lost to the Bucks and Celtics by a combined seven points.
The Hornets are off to a solid 3-1 start with wins over the Sixers, Heat and Bucks, and a close loss to the Celtics (104-98). Charlotte is led by point guard Kemba Walker, who is emerging into a borderline superstar now in his sixth NBA season. Walker is averaging 23 ppg (46/44/85.2) to go with 5.5 apg and 1.8 spg. His ability to bury you from deep and get to the line (averaging a career-high 6.8 FT attempts per game) makes the 6-1 former Huskie legend one of the hardest players to defend at his position, and a first time All-Star selection seems likely.
Charlotte has gotten inconsistent production elsewhere on their roster, but had to be pleased with the breakout performance from Nicolas Batum in their last win over Philadelphia. After his shooting woes from the Olympics followed him into the regular season, the Frenchman broke out with a 17-point third quarter against the Sixers and finally got hot from deep with four threes made. After signing a big contract this summer, it was a welcome sight for Hornets brass and fans alike.

The game should mark the return of veteran guard Randy Foye to the Nets rotation, as the team is surely in need of guard depth following Lin’s injury. The Hornets will again be without center Roy Hibbert, who after a strong season opener against Milwaukee has been out of action with a knee injury suffered in Charlotte’s second game against Miami.
