Two Alabama students took their rivalry with LSU too far, vandalizing the field at Tiger Stadium in Death Valley

There’s a great deal of animosity between the Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers and understandably so. Not only are we talking about two perennial SEC powerhouses, but these two teams also have history. Most notably, the current Alabama head coach in Nick Saban was the guy on the sidelines for the Tigers once upon a time. However, there’s always someone who takes a rivalry too far. In this case, it was two someones who crossed the line ahead of the rivalry game on Saturday.

Prior to the Week 10 college football clash between the Crimson Tide and Tigers, two young Alabama students and fans broke into Tiger Stadium at Death Valley. They then proceeded to head to midfield and deface the Tigers logo at the 50-yard line.

The pair of students scratched the eye of the logo and then left. As you can see, the grounds crew at LSU was quick to get out there to repair the damage prior to kickoff:

Marty Smith of ESPN later reported that the LSU police department had caught the two Alabama students, two 18-year-olds from Maryland, and charged them with criminal trespassing:

Good. Even if hatred for LSU runs deep in your veins, this type of thing is just ridiculous. There’s a line of respect in each rivalry that should never be crossed. Vandalism like this—and more serious instances that we’ve seen from other Alabama fans and SEC fans in the past—are unacceptable. They tarnish something great about the conference and college football.

Luckily, this happened early so the damage could be fixed. Once Leonard Fournette and company get word of this, though, you have to wonder if this adds a little fuel to their fire to try and notch the upset.
