Coming in at No. 7 in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings, the Louisville Cardinals felt a bit slighted on Tuesday night. They have a chance to prove the committee wrong by winning out, but the chances of them winning the ACC are slim despite the one loss.
Lamar Jackson is one of the nation’s best quarterbacks and he’s widely considered the No. 1 Heisman candidate after nine weeks. He has passed for 2,522 yards and 22 touchdowns while rushing for another 996 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s an incredible talent.
Jamari Staples and James Quick have been his favorite receivers to this point in the season, both posting over 500 yards. Cole Hikutini is a close third with 482 receiving yards. There is no shortage of weapons on this offensive side of the ball.
Boston College, on the other hand, has been relatively mediocre this season, posting a 4-4 record through nine weeks and the Eagles haven’t been very competitive against top teams. In fact, the only ACC win they have is against a reeling N.C. State team.
Kentucky-transfer quarterback Patrick Towles has come in to start for the Eagles, but he has had a slow start to the season. He hasn’t been effective since his sophomore season in 2014, which has to be frustrating.
The Eagles’ offense has been anything but electric this season as the run game hasn’t been able to pick up much on the ground. Only four receivers have more than 100 yards on the season as well.
