DraftKings NFL Picks Week 9:

Quarterbacks:

Our week 9 Draftkings NFL picks begins with the QB position. Our first pick is a value pick: Joe Flacco. Flacco can be had for $5,500. He doesn’t grade out very well: 31st in DYAR, 29th in DVOA and 24th in QBR. So at this point your probably saying, “what are you thinking Coach Curt!” What I am thinking is, if you are looking to pay up at other positions, Flacco is a good value at QB.

Flacco is at home in a big divisional game against Pittsburgh where he averages nearly 19 FP’s against Pitt at home. Also, he has one of the best arms in the NFL. Steve Smith is back this week and Pitt is ranked 23rd in DVOA pass defense. Oh, and they are ranked 27th in the NFL in WR1 DVOA pass defense. This adds up to a good play that will make value so that you can pay up elsewhere.

Our Mid-Tier play is Dak Prescott at $6,100. There really is no need to roll out the stats to convince you that Dak has a good matchup this week. He gets Cleveland, so that explains it all. But the one consideration that has Dak standing out is that he is more likely to rush for a TD this week than any other QB. The Browns are ranked 30th in DVOA pass and rush defense, so game flow will probably not put Dak on 300 plus yards and multiple TD passes. But, his running ability against a bad run defense, puts him over the edge,

The top-tier pick this week is Aaron Rodgers at $7,800. Indy is just not a good pass defense team! Ranked 29th in DVOA, 30th in passing yards given up and 25th in QB FP’s given up. Now that Rodgers has righted his ship, he has Montgomery and Cobb back, and he is home this week, there will be no stopping him.

Running Backs:

The Chiefs have ruled out Spencer Ware for week 9. Charcandrick West will now get the starting nod. If you remember last year there was a period when West was “the guy” in Kansas City. Then Ware had his breakout and it went all down hill for West. Now he gets another shot and he has drawn a favorable matchup. Jacksonville is 27th in yards allowed on the ground, 20th in FP’s given up to RB’s and 24th in Rushing Defense DVOA. With Ware out, go all in on West.

Next is Mid Tier RB Matt Forte at $6,500. Miami is the 30th ranked defense in rushing yards allowed per game. They are tied for 16th for TD’s allowed but, Forte is a TD machine and is ranked 4th in red zone rushing attempts and has 6 TD’s. I see Forte getting into the end zone at least once.

More from DFS

There are two options at the top-tier. Ezekiel Elliott at $7,900 is in a great matchup against Cleveland. As mentioned earlier, Cleveland is not good against the run, so you can just set Zeek and forget him! The second option is DeMarco Murray at $7,600. A lot of people will be off of Murray this week.

Everywhere I look, people are putting him as a “must sit.” I don’t see it…yes, San Diego is ranked 6th in yards allowed per game. I do not see Murray hitting the century mark but, I still see him having a great day. San Diego is ranked 22nd in DVOA against passes to an RB and they are 2nd in TD’s given up with 11. Murray is a great pass catching threat ranked 7th with 27 completions and has a nose for the end zone with 8 TD’s. I could see a multiple TD day for Murray!

Wide Receivers:

Tyreek Hill of Kansas City is a true value play. A speedster who is one of the fastest receivers in the NFL, Hill is a true deep threat. Grades out more for GPP but, has been slowly grabbing a bigger role in KC. He is a rushing and receiving threat and if his targets keep growing his value will sky rocket. With Ware out this week, I expect Hill to exceed his season high targets/touches.

Mid-tier is a receiver very similar to Hill. Ty Montgomery will be in the lineup at $5,800 for week 9. He did not play in week 8 and in week 7 he was targeted 13 times and had 9 rushing attempts. A receiver who will potentially touch the ball more than 20 times should have no problem making value. As mentioned earlier, the Colts are a great matchup for Montgomery and I expect him to find the end zone at least once this week. Another play that fits this same write up is Randall Cobb at $6,600,

Finally, if you want to go big, then you go with Brown. Rumors are rumbling that Big Ben will play but, either way, I expect Brown to have a good day in Baltimore. The Ravens are 25th in FP’s given up to WR’s. Further, while they are ranked 6th for yards per game, they are ranked 25th in DVOA for pass defense against the WR1. Brown should have a good day with this matchup.

Tight Ends:

Lance Kendricks at $2,800 is your value option. Carolina grades out negatively against the TE position. They give up the 28th most FP’s to the position and are ranked 29th in DVOA in TE coverage. Also, Kendricks is one of Case Keenum‘s favorite targets.

Further, Kyle Rudolph is your best tight end option in week 9. He is matching up against the worst team against TE’s. Detroit is ranked dead last in FP’s given up to TE’s and 27th overall in DVOA in TE pass coverage. Rudolph is a very dependable possession receiver that has found the end zone 3 times this year. Bradford leans on him and I expect they will hook up for a TD this week.

Defenses:

Basically, we tend to gravitate to the best defense that fits our lineup. With that in mind, there are 3 choices that can give you options based upon what you have left in the bank. The Chiefs are the best choice overall at $3,500. The Chiefs take the ball away and the Jaguars are a team that gives it away. A match made in defensive heaven.

Next, the Panthers at $3,400 have a good matchup against a weak offense in L.A. The Panthers may have turned a corner last week defensively and I expect it to continue against the Rams. Finally, the Bills at $2,800 match up with the Seahawks. I expect this to be a close game and I see the Bills defense playing well against an offense that has just not been clicking this year. I would not be surprised if the Bills pull off the upset.
