The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide shut out the No. 13 Tigers in Death Valley, 10-0 on Saturday night. Here are all the highlights, the game recap, and the final score.

If you saw the Game of the Century back in 2011 between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers, Saturday night in Baton Rouge was a bit of a flashback. Neither team could get into the end zone or kick it through the uprights in the first three quarters.

Both defenses played outstanding football. What was ultimately the difference in this low-scoring position battle was Alabama true freshman Jalen Hurts’ legs. He got into the end zone early in the fourth quarter on a 21-yard scamper to seize the lead. Alabama would go on to shut out LSU in Death Valley, 10-0.

Alabama will keep its No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings by moving to 9-0 on the season. LSU will drop from No. 13, but probably not out of the Top 25 for its outstanding effort against Alabama.

This game featured several future NFL defensive stars like Jonathan Allen of Alabama and Arden Key of LSU. What was most striking about this game was how elite both pass rushes and secondaries were. Neither quarterback had much time to throw the football and when they did, they didn’t have much of a throwing lane to find their receivers.

Alabama may still end up winning the 2017 College Football Playoff, but LSU may have exposed some things on Saturday night. The biggest question is if Alabama will face a pass rush as explosive as LSU’s. Maybe the arch rival Auburn Tigers could be that team? Regardless, Alabama prevails and LSU stumbles in this one.

Three Stars

  1. Jalen Hurts: Hurts was the star player and the difference maker for Alabama. He completed only 10 of 17 passes for 107 yards, one interception, and one fumble. However, it were his legs that were the difference. He had 20 carries for 114 yards and the game-winning 21-yard rushing touchdown.
  2. Ryan Anderson: Anderson had two of the six Alabama sacks of LSU quarterback Danny Etling. That Alabama pass rush might be the best college football has ever seen.
  3. Arden Key: Key forced that fumble of Hurts in the second half. LSU played fantastic defense and he’s their most distinguished player.
