Nebraska’s great season has come off the rails as starting quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. suffered a brutal injury against Ohio State.
Through first eight weeks of the season, Nebraska was enjoying a historic start. They had a 7-0 record, their best start since 2001, and sat at the top of the Big Ten West. Everything was going well for them, as well as for their quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. who fixed a lot of his turnover issues and led them to a perfect record.
They hit a snag against Wisconsin, but did well to come back after trailing by 10. Nebraska still controlled their destiny so long as they could beat Ohio State, but that was easier said than done. Already down 24-3 in the second quarter, Nebraska’s day went from bad to worse. Tommy Armstrong Jr. got hit hard by Buckeyes safety Malik Hooker, and landed hard on his head.
He stayed on the ground for a couple of minutes before an ambulance eventually had to come take him off. It was a scary scene at the Horseshoe, and both sets of fans were praying for him. People were doing the same on social media as well.
Damn Tommy Armstrong's head bounced off that turf falling down

Even though Ohio State really wants to win this game, there’s no way Hooker tried to intentionally hurt him like that. You can be sure that nobody feels worse about the whole thing than him.
Armstrong didn’t play well in this game at all; his first throw resulted in a pick six. The Huskers have proven this season that they shouldn’t be counted out. But while a comeback with Armstrong was already hard enough – it’s even harder now with Ryker Fyfe under center.

This injury doesn’t just derail Nebraska’s comeback attempt, it derails their entire season. What started out as a great year with potential playoff aspirations looks like they have just handed over the Big Ten West to Wisconsin. And after the season Tommy Armstrong has had, he deserves much more than this.
