Chelsea moved into first place in the Premier League table thanks to a dominant win against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea looked like they were fading out of the title race after back-to-back losses to Liverpool and Arsenal at the end of September. They’ve won five straight since then — thanks in part to Antonio Conte’s decision to move to 3-4-3 formation — and after thrashing Everton 5-0 at Stamford Bridge Saturday, moved into first place in the table for the first time all season.

The Blues were irrepressible. Eden Hazard scored two excellent solo goals, while Diego Costa, Marco Alonso and Pedro all scored once. The result would have been special regardless of Chelsea’s position in the table, but it will be all the sweeter for Blues fans given that it allows them to take the Premier League lead.

Chelsea overtake Manchester City, who drew at home against Middlesbrough after conceding a stoppage time goal. The Citizens dominated in the first half, but their profligacy in front of goal ultimately cost them two points and top spot in the table.

Here’s the full table after five Saturday games:

The other matches of the day saw Sunderland win their first of the season against Bournemouth, Burnley win a back and forth match against Crystal Palace and West Ham and Stoke play out a boring 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

The big game of the weekend takes place Sunday, when Arsenal take on Tottenham in the North London derby at the Emirates. Arsenal will go first if they can win, though if Liverpool can beat Watford at home, the two sides will be level on points.
