High Value PG

J.J. Barea-Dallas Mavericks (5,700): Barea continues to carry the load for a banged-up Mavericks team and has posting at least 29 fantasy points in four of his last five contests including a season-high 34.4 fantasy points last night against the Lakers on 18 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Barea will likely return to a reduced role when Deron Williams and Dirk Nowitzki return, but for tonight’s contest against the Warriors, Barea should be one of the key pieces of Dallas’s offense yet again. So far this season, the Warriors are giving up the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing PG which could lead to another successful game for Barea as he runs the point for Big D.

Ish Smith-Detroit Pistons (5,300): Smith’s price has dropped coming into tonight’s game after a clunker in the Pistons’ road blowout on Monday. He played just 24 minutes in that contest going 1-9 and finishing with just 5.7 fantasy points. It was a huge letdown since he had posted at least 25 fantasy points in three of his previous five games and had at least seven assists in each of his first six games with Detroit. Reggie Jackson is working his way, but until he’s ready to re-enter the lineup, Smith will continue to have some solid upside. The Suns are allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing PG, so Ish should be able to bounce back tongiht.

Isaiah Whitehead-Brooklyn Nets (4,400): Another fill-in PG to take a look at tonight is Isaiah Whitehead who helped the Nets knock off Minnesota last night with his best game of the season. Whitehead finished with 24.9 fantasy points on six points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and a block. He’ll probably get his third start in a row tonight as the Nets visit the Knicks and Derrick Rose. Whitehead doesn’t have crazy-high upside, but if you decide to go with a cheap PG, he is one of the most solid options.∗∗

Malcolm Delaney-Atlanta Hawks (3,500): If you’re looking for a punt play at PG, Delaney is the best option from the group at 3,500. He and the Hawks got a big road win in cleveland last night but will need to avoid a letdown at home tonight against the Bulls. Delaney is typically play ing 15-20 minutes a game and getting 12-18 fantasy points. While those numbers won’t carry you to victory, they are a solid return if you decide you can spend your money wisely in big chunks elsewhere.
