4. The Cowboys’ running backs

Many people realize that Cowboys’ rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott is on pace to break Erick Dickerson’s rookie rushing record of 1,808 yards but did you know that his backup Alfred Morris is the last rookie running back to run for more than 1,600 yards in a season since Dickerson?

While Alfred Morris’ stats aren’t eye popping, as he only has 52 carries for 192 yards and is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry, the Cowboys would be wise to start incorporating him more into the offense.

Currently Ezekiel Elliott leads all running backs in average carries per game with 22.1.  At the end of the day, for as great as he has been, he still is just a rookie and rookie running backs have been known to show a decline in production as their inaugural NFL season winds on.

That is where Morris becomes a factor. In his first three seasons in the league, Morris averaged 1,320 rushing yards a season and nine touchdowns.  If the Cowboys start puling the reins on Elliott, then Morris will be more than up for the task to replace him; and that is an ominous sign for a Steelers defense that doesn’t specialize in stopping the run.
