No. 21 Texas and Incarnate Word will be one of many college basketball games kicking off the season on Friday. This will take place at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX.
Incarnate Word is a Division I school that’s located in San Antonio, TX. They had a 17-12 season in 2015-16 and finished third in the Southland Conference. This team most notably upset St. John’s last year, so facing a school like Texas isn’t exactly new ground for them.
As for the Longhorns, Shaka Smart is entering his second season at the helm. He has a returning roster of just two seniors after leading a veteran squad to a 20-13 season in 2015-16.
Texas will look to build multiple scoring threats for the upcoming season after losing everyone from Cameron Ridley, to Isaiah Taylor and even Javan Felix. This leaves Kerwin Roach Jr. and Eric Davis Jr. to pick up the pieces as the potential primary scorers. Both are sophomore guards who averaged around 20 minutes per game last season.
There are other options, though, as Smart brought in a handful of freshmen. This includes ESPN’s No. 15-ranked Jarrett Allen, a center from Austin, TX, and Andrew Jones, a shooting guard from Irving, TX. Neither may have a big role in year one, but we could get a glimpse of them on Friday, especially against Incarnate Word.
