Week 11 of the college football season was like something out of the first couple days of the NCAA Tournament: pure madness. Iowa contributed to the chaos with a 14-13 upset victory over No. 3 Michigan.

Before No. 3 Michigan took the field inside Kinnick Stadium on Saturday night to face Iowa, they already knew the fate of No. 2 Clemson after their loss to Pitt at home. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, they suffered the same fate as the Tigers in a 14-13 upset loss to the Hawkeyes on Saturday night in Iowa City.

Keith Duncan’s field goal as time expired gave Iowa the lead and the one-point victory in what was the theme of the day in college football. If you’re good, you weren’t surviving the day.

Michigan joined Clemson and No. 4 Washington — who lost to No. 20 USC at home — among unbeaten teams that lost on Saturday.

Three of the top four teams in the current College Football Playoff rankings lost on Saturday at some point, which means Tuesday should be the most interesting of nights in between the State Farm Champions Classic involving Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan State on the college hardwood.

For the Hawkeyes, their 14-13 win won’t be propelling them back to the Rose Bowl after last year’s magical run to an unbeaten regular season. But, the win makes the Hawkeyes bowl eligible and gives them momentum heading into the final weeks of the season.

As for Michigan, the Wolverines aren’t completely out of the College Football Playoff picture just yet. If they win out, including beating No. 5 Ohio State (who will likely rise in the rankings), the Wolverines can still make the playoff despite the loss on Saturday night.
