Isaiah Pead, who last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2016, is in critical condition after being involved in a car crash early Saturday morning.

Isaiah Pead underwent surgery and is in critical condition on Saturday after being involved in a car crash early in the morning, per SI.com. The former Los Angeles Rams (then St. Louis) and Miami Dolphins running back was the driver of the car at the time of the crash and was ejected as he was not wearing his seatbelt. A 27-year-old passenger was listed as being in stable condition following the accident.

According to reports, Pead was driving down Interstate 670 early Saturday when his car went off the road and into a grove of trees. The vehicle struck several trees and sent the 26-year-old Pead out of his seat. He was then transported to a local hospital where he went into surgery around 7 a.m. ET to treat his injuries. As stated, he’s currently listed in critical condition following the procedures.

The extent of Pead’s injuries are unknown at this time, as are many of the details regarding the crash. There is no word on if alcohol was involved or what factors may have contributed to the accident.

Pead last played for the Miami Dolphins in the 2016 season, earning three carries in Week 4. After not seeing the field the next week, he was among a group of players cut following Week 5. The 26-year-old Cincinnati product spent the first years of his career with the Rams, then in St. Louis, from 2012-15. He saw inconsistent time on the field in the Rams backfield throughout his time there, never fully carving out a role for himself.
